In Milwaukee’s commercial real estate market, it takes partnerships, planning and perseverance to push the envelope, which makes Ascent’s rise all the more impressive.

Sitting atop a six-floor concrete podium, the remaining 19 floors of this 259-unit luxury apartment tower will be built with cross-laminated timber (CLT). CLT, which has been widely used in Europe for decades, has only recently started gaining popularity in the U.S. Once completed, Ascent will be the tallest mass timber structure in the world.

To get a project as big and ambitious as Ascent off the ground, it has taken three years of planning and a veritable super team of collaborators. New Land and Weichmann Enterprises are the developers, Korb + Associates Architects are design leads, structural engineering is by Thornton Tomasetti, timber sourcing is by Timberlab, with Catalyst Construction and C.D. Smith teaming up as general contractors. Ascent is set to be completed in summer 2022.
