Challenge
-
First Immanuel Lutheran School, one of the largest Lutheran schools in the state, had rapid enrollment growth that outpaced its classroom capacity.
- The school needed to update and expand facilities to support early childhood through grade 8, while also integrating 21st-century learning environments.
- The existing campus had multiple disconnected additions and outdated classrooms, creating circulation challenges and limiting collaborative learning.
- Catalyst had to deliver a solution that preserved First Immanuel’s long-standing identity in Cedarburg while preparing for continued growth and modern education needs.
Solution
Catalyst Construction, in partnership with GDG, managed an expansion that reorganized the campus into a more cohesive, student-centered environment.
Key elements included:
- New early childhood education wing, purpose-built for preschool and kindergarten learners.
- Modern K–8 classrooms designed with flexible layouts, integrated technology, and natural light.
- STEM labs and specialty spaces for science, arts, and collaborative projects.
- Improved commons and gathering areas that double as lunch space, event areas, and informal learning zones.
- Site circulation updates to better connect parking, student drop-off, and building entries. (GDG portfolio)
- Construction was phased to allow school operations to continue throughout the academic year, with Catalyst sequencing classroom turnover in alignment with school schedules.”
